Doug Ogar's West Park WISH: LIFE

October 23, 2014
Doug started his adventure at West Park Healthcare Centre 32 years ago on August 1, 1982; this brought a whole new world into view for Doug. However, in spite of changes in his abilities, Doug maintained his passion for writing and music and has been able to continue to express his creativity. Doug has been writing lyrics for many years, but has only begun to put some pretty black dots down. With the help of many and the use of his alphabet board, Doug began to compose his own music in 2005. Writing and composing music has been relaxing and at the same time invigorating (and sometimes frustrating!) for Doug. When given the opportunity to make one of Doug’s dreams come true with the West Park WISH program supported by Recreation Therapy at West Park Healthcare Centre, Doug was able to record his music at Boxcar Sound recording in Hamilton. Music has been such a positive influence and a constant comfort throughout Doug’s life and he is so thankful that he has been able to be a part of making it and sharing it with others. Along with Doug’s wish, the West Park WISH program was able to grant 21 WISHes of patients living in Complex Continuing Care.
