Hand Hygiene Tips 2011

February 26, 2011
If hands could talk, they would not only tell stories of healing and comfort, but also tales of contamination, transmission and infection. Hands can be the route of transmission for a number of pathogens. Did you know? • 80% of hospital staff who dressed wound infected with MRSA carried the organisms on their hands for up to three hours! • 60% of hospital staff, within ½ hour of contact with patients with Clostridium difficile infections, were contaminated without even having touched the patient. • Washing with soap and water or using the alcohol hand rub virtually eradicated theses organisms. • Keeping your hands healthy is an important part of good hand hygiene. Recently Infection Prevention and Control and Public Relations ran a contest asking staff to submit healthy hands tips. Here is the resulting video featuring a few staff members and the tips they submitted. We wish to thank everyone that participated in the contest. Remember, just clean your hands!
